The Idea of PlaNet

The idea of PlaNet can be separated into two main thoughts under one basic assumption: This assumption is of course the feeling that there is already a coherence between the European countries which has to be developed further. The network of planning students PlaNet is one contribution to this process. A small contribution in the field of our interest: the field of planning.

Prof. Saskia Sassen, New York + Prof. Margit Mayer, Berlin + Frank Roost This leads to the first thought which is about the personal side of PlaNet. This means to encourage cooperation between young European people by promoting the exchange of ideas, culture and practical experiences. Certainly the network is meant to get to know people from other countries and to build up relations and friendships between different countries.

The other thought is linked to the subject PlaNet is working on: Planning as a profession. In the growing process of globalisation problems and answers to these problems are no longer discussed and solved in countries separated from each other. So there is a strong need to compare the different situations and to learn from each other in order to get new ideas and to find the best possible solution.

Both aims shall be achieved in regular bigger and smaller meetings within PlaNet. Cooperation between young European people There is always a good deal of information and working on questions within the field of planning. But for sure there is as much if not even more a lot of fun coming together with other young European people discovering the similarities and differences among each other. So it is for sure that PlaNet will provide an inspiration and motivation for everybody joining in. An inspiration not only for yourself but also for your studies while your horizon is broadened in personal experiences and planning matters both at the same time.
