Introduction/goals

PlaNet Alumni is a network of people formerly involved in PlaNet who would like to stay in touch professionally and personally.

It is also open to other professionals interested in the main 3 goals of PlaNet Alumni:

1. to exchange information and professional experience in the field of planning,

PlaNet Alumni - Memorandum 10 December 2000

Preamble

PlaNet Alumni is the network of people formerly involved in PlaNet, and whose aim is to stay in touch both professionally as well as personally. It is also open to other professionals interested in the objectives of PlaNet Alumni. In general it is committed to the basic aims of PlaNet. Internally it works as a professional network, and externally as a supportive entity to PlaNet.

Aims of PlaNet Alumni:

1. Professional experience network
PlaNet Alumni is a network based upon personal relationships in order to exchange information and professional experience in the field of planning.
This shall be supported by tools as:

  • Web-based information compendium (i.e. LINKS relating to Associations, current events, projects, competitions, training opportunities)
  • PlaNet alumni member-related database: occupation, function/position, curriculum vitae (CV), specialising fields, interests
  • Member tourism: field trips, tours, short visits of a member’s working environment
  • the PlaNet Alumni eGroup list as a market place.

2. Assisting PlaNet

PlaNet Alumni acts as a nodal point between PlaNet and the international community of planning professionals. It supports PlaNet in technical, professional and personal terms. In particular this includes:
Exchange of experience with LG’s and the PlaNet board.

  • Technical help (e.g. providing facilities)
  • Professional assistance (e.g. speakers)
  • Meeting with PlaNet (regular meetings)
  • Making PlaNet known (introducing PlaNet in professional sphere)

Thus, PlaNet Alumni forms a pool of expertise and knowledge to be actively drawn on by PlaNet’s individual members, Local Groups, or the PlaNet board. In order to enable PlaNet Alumni to do so, it is in the interest of PlaNet to keep PlaNet Alumni informed about current developments and activities.

3) Private contacts

PlaNet Alumni also functions as a pool of informal contact.
This includes:

  • Annual meeting, provisionally taking place around Pentecost in late May / early June.
  • Web-based exchange of personal issues, i.e. Beer, Striking locations, Revivals, Wedding parties
  • Provision of shelter and other commodities

Organisation of PlaNet Alumni

Initiatives and activities can be initiated and supervised by any member. Decision-makings are undertaken informally on demand.
